I would like to have support for version specific mods subfolders inside the main mods folder.

E.g. a Folder "1.17.1" inside the mods folder with mods that are only loaded when a fabric 1.17.1 client is started.

In general, having multiple minecraft versions use the same game directory is a bad idea. For instance, in vanilla, if you have 1.12 with auto jump disabled but launched 1.8 once, your auto jump setting is removed and the next time you open 1.12, you will have auto jump enabled. The sustainable approach is to let loader load mods from custom directories (custom mod candidate finders, as you can see here)
